Tributes for search and rescue hero Egerton

LSAR Tributes for search and rescue hero Egerton

"A MAN who owes his life to Queenstown chopper pilot Dennis Egerton is among those mourning his death this week.

North Cantabrian Andrew Wilce told Mountain Scene: “I wouldn’t be here, I owe him one.”

Flying in atrocious conditions three years ago, Egerton spotted the wreckage of a Cessna 172 in rugged country near Queenstown.

Pilot/instructor Neil Turner had already died but had the wreckage not been found by nightfall, then-trainee pilot Wilce would also have perished."
