CD NZ not immune from terrorist attack - US expert

"New Zealand was not immune from a terrorist attack, an American Middle East expert and national security analyst said today.

Anthony Cordesman told an audience at the United States Embassy in Wellington – to mark the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks in America – that western countries would remain at risk even if al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden were removed.

He said that terrorism was part of a much "broader struggle" in the Middle East and people needed to exercise caution when viewing the "growing crisis" which had been building for decades."
